The Handover

If someone had to step into your shoes tomorrow, would they know where to begin?

The Handover is Kal’s paid, done-with-you service. She helps you turn your information into a finished handover pack, bringing together the information somebody may need to understand the important parts of your life, not because you expect something to happen, but because you do not want the people you love left guessing if it does.

What a Handover is

Your information, turned into a finished handover pack.

A Handover is a clear record of the important information, contacts, arrangements and wishes someone may need if you are unable to deal with your own affairs.

It is not a legal document. It is a practical family preparedness tool. It can build on a completed Life In Order Roadmap (£17 for a year), which you can organise yourself, but the two are separate.

What exists

The accounts, policies, properties and arrangements that make up your life.

Where to find it

Where important information and documents are actually kept.

Who to contact

The professionals, providers and people who need notifying or involving.

What needs attention

Bills, arrangements and responsibilities that need dealing with.

Which professionals are involved

Solicitor, accountant, financial adviser, mortgage provider, and others.

What your wishes are

Funeral wishes, personal possessions, messages and instructions for family.

Where further help may be needed

Areas where professional legal, financial or practical advice may be required.

"If I could not deal with everything myself, what would somebody else need to know?"

That is the question your Handover answers.

The difference it makes

Your family should not have to become detectives.

Without a Handover: your family may be asking

  • Which bank did Mum use?
  • Did Dad have life insurance?
  • Where is the Will?
  • Who is the mortgage with?
  • Who is the accountant?
  • What pensions exist?
  • What happens to the business?
  • Who has the spare keys?
  • What bills need paying?
  • What did they actually want us to do?

With a Handover: they have a starting point

  • They have a starting point
  • They know what exists
  • They know where to look
  • They know who to contact
  • They know what needs attention
  • They know what your wishes are
  • They are not trying to reconstruct your entire life while already dealing with a difficult situation

And it is not only for when you die

Your family might need this information while you are still very much alive.

You could become seriously ill. You might have an accident. You might spend time in hospital. You could temporarily be unable to run your business or manage your affairs.

Someone may suddenly need to understand what normally only you deal with. That is why we call this life planning, not simply death planning.

Life planning.

Not simply death planning.

Estate planning is life planning. The Handover is one of the most practical things you can do, for yourself and for the people you care about.

Important to understand

Your Handover is not your Will.

Your Will and your Handover do different jobs. Your Will is a legal document dealing with your estate after your death. Your Handover is about the practical information somebody may need to understand your life.

A Handover does not replace a Will, a Lasting Power of Attorney, legal advice, financial advice, tax advice or other professional planning. It works alongside your wider arrangements, and where your Roadmap highlights areas that need professional attention, we are here to help.
