FAQ
Questions we're commonly asked.
Plain answers to the questions clients ask most often. If you don't see what you're looking for, get in touch. We're happy to talk through your specific situation.
What is the Life In Order Roadmap?
A private online space where you organise the information, documents, decisions and conversations your family could one day need. It has 35 guided sections in seven parts, from your Will and Powers of Attorney to money, digital life and your wishes. It costs £17 for a year's access.
How do I get access?
After you buy, you'll get an email with your personal access code within minutes. Sign in at roadmap.alifeinorder.co.uk with that code, on your phone, tablet or computer.
Is it a subscription?
No. It's one payment of £17 for a year's access, and it doesn't renew automatically. Before your year ends, we'll send you an Annual Check-in, and you can choose whether to renew. If you renew with the same email address, everything you've saved stays exactly as it is.
Can my family see it?
Your code is personal to you, so please keep it to yourself. When your family need to see what you've written, you can download a PDF copy for them.
What happens to my information?
Only you can see your answers. Your Roadmap is stored securely in the EU. It's never sold, and it's never used for advertising. If you don't renew, we keep your saved Roadmap for 60 days in case you change your mind, and then it's permanently deleted. Anything you've downloaded is yours to keep. Read our Privacy Policy at roadmap.alifeinorder.co.uk/privacy.
What is the free Life & Legacy Review?
From inside your Roadmap, you can ask Kal for a free Life & Legacy Review whenever you'd like help with what you've found. There's no obligation, and you choose whether to share your Roadmap with her.
Is the Roadmap legal advice?
No. It helps you organise your affairs and see what needs attention. Where you need advice, Kal can help you work out what to do next, or point you to a qualified professional.
Can I cancel?
When you buy, you ask for your access to start straight away and agree that this means the usual 14-day right to cancel doesn't apply. Your rights if something is faulty aren't affected.

Do I really need a Will?
If you have any assets, property, a partner, children or specific wishes about what happens after you die, a Will is important. Without one, your estate is distributed according to the rules of intestacy, which may not reflect your wishes at all.
What happens if I die without a Will?
Your estate is distributed under the intestacy rules, which set out a fixed order of priority. Unmarried partners receive nothing. Children from outside a marriage may be treated differently. The outcome may bear little resemblance to what you would have wanted.
What is a Lasting Power of Attorney?
A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf, for your finances or your health and welfare, if you become unable to make those decisions yourself.
Do married couples need separate Wills?
Yes. While couples can make mirror Wills that reflect the same wishes, each Will is a separate legal document. A joint Will is not a concept recognised in English and Welsh law.
Can I change my Will later?
Yes. A Will can be updated at any time while you have mental capacity, either by a formal amendment (a codicil) or by making a new Will. We recommend reviewing your Will after any significant life change.
How often should I review my Will?
At minimum every three to five years, and after any significant event: marriage, divorce, birth of a child, property purchase or sale, bereavement, starting or selling a business, or significant changes in your financial position.
What is a trust?
A trust is a legal arrangement where assets are held by one or more trustees for the benefit of named beneficiaries. Trusts can be used for a range of purposes, protecting property, providing for vulnerable beneficiaries, or managing how and when assets pass to the next generation.
Do I need a trust?
Not everyone does. Trust planning is considered only after a full assessment of your circumstances, objectives and technical suitability. We will never recommend a trust arrangement unless it is genuinely appropriate for your situation.
What is The Handover?
The Handover is Kal's paid, done-with-you service. She helps you turn your information into a finished handover pack of the practical details your family would need if they had to step in tomorrow: accounts, contacts, properties, insurance, digital life and your personal wishes. It is separate from the Life In Order Roadmap, though it can build on a completed one. A Will tells people what you wanted. The Handover tells them what they need to know.
Are there additional government fees?
For Lasting Powers of Attorney, the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) charges a registration fee set by the Government. This is separate from our professional fees and is charged at cost. Land Registry and HMRC fees may also apply for certain trust or property planning.
How long does estate planning take?
A straightforward Will and LPA package can typically be completed within two to four weeks. More complex planning, trusts, property or business succession, may take longer depending on the circumstances.
Can you help property investors?
Yes. We have specialist planning for landlords, property developers and investors, covering ownership structures, mortgages, succession and business continuity.
Can you review documents I already have?
Yes, get in touch and we can talk through any existing planning you have in place, to identify what is current, what needs updating, and what may be missing.
