Common oversights
Where Wills go wrong.
No one knows where it is
A Will that can’t be found is a Will that can’t be followed. Your family needs to know where the original is stored.
It’s out of date
After marriage, children, divorce, or changes to property or business, a Will written before these events may no longer reflect your wishes or your life.
Guardians weren’t appointed
For parents of young children, this is often the single most important decision a Will makes. Without it, there is no legal direction.
Beneficiaries are out of date
Relationships and circumstances change. An old Will can leave assets to people you no longer intend.
Executors weren’t told
Appointing someone as executor without telling them, or without knowing they’re willing, can cause significant problems.
Done cheaply and never reviewed
A poorly drafted or online Will can create more problems than it solves. Ambiguity and legal defects are more common than people think.
